“To believe or not to believe?” That is the question. “Rob, do supplements work? Do smoothies really fill you up? How can I make these serious lifestyle shifts more enjoyable?” Questions I get everyday as a personal trainer. There are so many products—some FDA approved, others completely untested and unproven, and some straight up gimmicks, that lure shoppers into a black hole of overwhelmingly scientific sounding products and promises that unfortunately turn people into non-believers of the benefits that supplements can provide. Of course, supplements, smoothies and exercise are going to be most beneficial, but fitness alone, without a healthy foundation, won’t get you to your goal. Hopefully, this newsletter nudges you in the right direction to find the supplement that’s right for you.
Keeping it simple on supplements and smoothies...
The Wall Street Journal released an article that brought to light concerns surrounding the supplement industry. Personally, I advocate for the use of supplements in conjunction with a balanced, wholesome diet and fitness program or regimen. I have found select supplements to be a vital aid in my client's success, and as a responsible professional, I always try to play an active role in keeping my clients educated on their effects and uses. Truth in labeling is expected, however it is not required, of any supplement company until it becomes a condition of the FDA
